The School is being promoted by the Satikanta Guha Foundation under the chairmanship of Mr Indranath Guha. He is a graduate of the Universities of Calcutta and Oxford. After teaching for seven years at Jadavpur University, he joined South Point. He was its Principal for more than 22 years.

He has taught English at secondary, higher secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As the Secretary of South Point, which had a combined strength of about 12,000 pupils, 400 teachers and 300 members of office and service staff, he bore the major part of the burden of administration. He, therefore, has considerable experience in both spheres: actual classroom teaching and school administration.

He is also the author of numerous articles and books on Education and allied subjects.

Garden High School was established in 2000 (first Academic Year 2001-2002) as an effort to translate the visions of the late Satikanta Guha, the Founder of South Point School & High School, one of the largest schools in the world, into reality.

The name of the School is a reminder of its humble beginning in a small two-storied house in Lake Gardens, Kolkata. The first of the three present adjacent plots that the School now occupies was allotted in 2002 by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. The construction of the building began in January 2003, and the School shifted to its new premises in April 2004.

The building with its six floors, each with an area of about 10,000 sft, has besides other facilities, a large library (about 3,500 sft) and fully equipped laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, geography, psychology, home science and computer studies. Two generators, each with a capacity of 160 KW, make it possible to meet the total demand for power in case of a temporary break in CESC power supply. The building has two lifts.

The building also has, besides classrooms, a music room, an art and craft room, a games room, an audio visual room, a multipurpose hall, a canteen, and a medical room with a full-time trained nurse in attendance.

Nearly 5,000 sft of the covered area on the ground floor is open on three sides. In addition, a total area of 65,000 sft of vacant land is available as a playground.
